After careful consideration of the available choices for mounting my Pelican hard luggage (none of them attractive) I decided to build my own cradles for the Pelicans.  This is only the tip of the iceberg, check back frequently to see how I handled keeping them in my possession and out of the hands of would be thieves.

I bought 20 feet of 3/4 .120 wall tube (mild steel) as it works out it takes 10 feet per cradle with no leftover stock.

I also purchased 20 feet of 1/8" thick flat steel.  So far my total investment has been under 30 bucks.

It was important to me to build a cradle that could support the Pelican so as not to invade the integrity of the box, thus the Pelican still retains it's lifetime guarantee.

The Pelican slips into the cradle and has absolutely no movement.

The flat tabs on the back of the cradle keep the Pelican from leaning in too far and allows for the stainless steel screw to act as a catch for a locking mechanism.

More on that in a future article.

I used the flat stock as a mounting attachment (Easy Turbo) it still has to be reinforced.

The key to the cradle assembly. (Kinda like the secret sauce at McDonalds).

The underneath of the Pelican is notched for the "railroad tracks" I built for it to sit in.

Trust me, they don't move.

At this point I have to be honest, I did hurt myself patting my own shoulder for this idea.

The square tube allows for easier construction, I don't have a tube bender and to be quite honest I really didn't want the hassle of bending tube perfectly around two Pelicans.  I also didn't want to have duplicate it again if anyone out there saw these and just had to have them.

I think we have a winner!!

Lemme know whatcha think!

The spring loaded latch cost me $4.65 each and works great.

The Stainless steel hardware cost $35.00, the tubing cost $45.00.

Total Investment not including Pelicans was just a bit under $100.00.  Not bad, considering I was able to borrow my father in law's welder.

Thanks Pop!

The finished product, as you may notice in these photos, the frame bracket for the luggage is fairly long.  This will ultimately be bent upwards and be drilled to accept a padlock which will go through the bracket and around the handle.
